Watch as four pilots, Spencer Lisenby, Jason Lilly, Bruce Tebo and Chris Bosley fly the incredible ThunderMaster at Weldon California to a maximum speed of 425mph by Dynamic Soaring. If you watch the video you’ll notice that the radar measurements at the top of the hill were the microphone is only get’s 413mph or 418mph. The lower speed measurements at Radar Rock for this flight were all higher by 10 to twenty mph because the operator was getting a better angle on the plane. The video does capture the 425mph lap but that measurement occurred away from the microphone.
The plane has a 200 inch wing span, two 11 pound steel joiners and weighs over 77 pounds. This combination of speed, weight, wing span, 65+mph winds and high speed shear crossing makes for some outrageous sounds. You’ll also notice that the far side of the groove, the lower or far shear crossing, is also incredibly loud. The ThunderMaster lives up to its name and creates huge thunderous clapping noises.
